John Mann of "Violet Glen" donated the land for the Strathewen Hall in 1901. The original trustees were Walter Mann, John Mann, William David Mann, Martin James Brennan and James Healey.
The Hall was opened on Wednesday 23rd April, 1902 with a Grand Concert and Ball attended by 120 people. Many piano-duet songs were sung and the singing of 'God Save the King' brought the concert to a close.
For over 100 years the Hall served the community as a hub of religious and social activity but on the 7th February 2009 our beloved Hall was destroyed by the Black Saturday bushfire.
In October 2009 the Strathewen Public Hall Association accepted the donation of additional land from the current owners of "Violet Glen" and began planning for the rebuilding of a new Hall.
110 years after the completion of the original Strathewen Hall the community came together on Friday 24th August 2012 to celebrate the opening of our new hall by the Governor of Victoria, The Hon Alex Chernov AC QC, and we marked another proud chapter in our communities history with great musical entertainment throughout the night.
